A little bit about me…
Hello, I’m Kristin Cosgrove. I live by the ocean with my husband and three children on the Surf Coast of Victoria, Australia. I grew up working alongside my brothers in our family’s fruit and vegetable business which is when my love affair with fresh, seasonal produce began. When my own children were born I discovered a love for cooking and a passion for learning all I can about my Italian roots. I am an avid reader and book collector (mostly cook books) and love nothing more than settling down in my warm kitchen with a hot cup of coffee to plan what I might make next (whether or not it actually gets made is besides the point!). I would love to call myself a home cook but since I’ve never roasted a duck or filleted a whole salmon, I’m not sure I’m worthy of the title just yet.
However, I intend to change that and starting this blog marks the beginning of a new journey. And I love new beginnings.
Why I love cooking…
Cooking in itself is a new beginning each time we step into the kitchen, each time we take a handful of ingredients and transform them. Of course, there is always the risk of it going pear shaped, but in the kitchen just as in life, it is often the mess, the chaos and the things we struggle with that turn out the best and certainly the most delicious.
So with that in mind, I hope sharing my thoughts and experiences as I learn how to cook, to really cook, inspires you to take the leap with me and that a friendship blossoms along the way. A connection between like minded souls.
A connection between food and life.
About my food…
The food I love to make is the food I love to eat!
I don’t subscribe to any kind of label or dietary ideology (though, it’s true to say I have tried them all) however, whole food seems to best describe the way we eat and the ingredients I love to use. Having said that, spaghetti is my desert island dish and features heavily on our menu at home. Growing up with an Italian grandfather has influenced me and I have been described as borderline obsessed with learning all I can about Italian food and the Italian way of life. It is indeed my dream to return to Italy to live and study and write a book about my experiences (Universe, I hope you’re listening).
